Two British sisters have been sentenced in Dubai. Alena and Sasha Parker, originally from Belarus, were convicted of assaulting a police officer outside a nightclub. The 37-year-old twins will face six months in jail followed by deportation.
The incident occurred when Alena Parker hurt her hand during a night out in the city. An ambulance was called to treat the woman but when things began to get out of control, the police were called. Alena reportedly slammed the ambulance door on the paramedic’s hand, causing the police to intervene.
“She was sitting inside the ambulance when we got there and the second one was standing next to the ambulance and screaming,” a 23-year-old Emirati police officer testified.
The paramedic said he did not wish to press charges but police moved to detain both sisters. The pair, said to be under the influence of alcohol then resisted, the court heard.
“We were ordered to handcuff them and take them in", the police officer said.
"While in the car, they both started screaming and banging on the windows,” he said.
After arriving at the police station, the twins were left in the vehicle with a policewoman.
“I went to get another set of handcuffs, since the ones we used were too big, but when I returned, I found both women on top of the policewoman, assaulting her,” he said.
The Emirati policewoman told prosecutors that she was unexpectedly attacked and was thrown to the ground.
“It was surprising because I did nothing to them nor did I even speak to them," she told the court.
"They threw me to the ground, injuring my head and back, sat on top of me, kicked me, and hit me all over my body. One of them scratched me hard on my right arm with her long nails,” said the policewoman.
The twins denied charges of physical assault, resisting arrest and using threatening language.
