In honour of the Holy Month of Ramadan, COSTA cups have a new look. Egyptian artist Diaa Allam has created a bespoke cup design using his signature graffiti-style. The ‘Sweet Gatherings in Ramadan’ cup features the traditional crescent moon - a symbol of Islam due to the Islamic calendar’s basis on the lunar cycle.
Diaa Allam commented: “I was delighted to be commissioned by COSTA to design this year’s Ramadan cup and knew my unique blend of traditional Arabic calligraphy and modern graffiti would lend itself really well to creating an eye-catching design for this year’s cup. Ramadan is a very special time in the holy calendar and the saying ‘sweet gatherings in Ramadan’ has long been used in my family to celebrate the sweet feeling of coming together to break fast. I’ve used dark, rich colours throughout the cup design to highlight the vibrant nature of the period, combined with geometrical moon shapes to reinforce the importance of the moon sightings at this holy time. I hope when people enjoy a coffee this Ramadan they take a moment to look at the cup and think of their loved ones.”
Diaa’s work also includes a portrait of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founder of the UAE which is now on display in the Dubai International Airport
COSTA will be serving up a limited-edition Date and Pistachio Frostino during Ramadan, available as a buy-one-get-one-free deal every day from 7-10pm!
