Diego Maradona, the World Cup winning Argentinian footballer has left his role as coach of UAE second division team Al Fujiarah after missing out on automatic promotion back to the UAE’s top flight.
The decision was made after Friday’s 1-1 draw against Khor Fakkan, which meant that Al Fujairah could not finish the season higher than thitd.
Al Fujairah have gone unbeaten all season winning 11 of their games and drawing the other 11, however the 44 points gained were not enough to get them promoted automatically.
Al Fujairah still stand a chance of promotion through a two-leg payoff against Hatta, however they will go into those games without Maradona at the helm.
For Maradona, who has previously managed the Argentinian national team, Al Fujairah was the second team he has coached in the UAE, after a year at Dubai’s Al Wasl.
