Taxi-booking app Uber has introduced some changes in its fare structure. Earlier the fares used to fluctuate during peak hours only, but now fares will fluctuate based on the day of the week and time of the day. Effective immediately, the new fare structure will apply on all UberSelect and UberVIP trips in Dubai.
The changes have affected base fares, per minute and per kilometre charges. The previous static base fare was Dhs 8 but now the dynamic base fare ranges from Dhs5.4/Dhs6.7/Dhs10.6 – varies by day of week and time of day; may change during public holidays. Per kilometre fares have gone up to Dhs 2.25 from Dhs1.83 and the fares per minutes have dropped to Dhs 0.25 from 0.50.
There is no change in the waiting charges and it remains same at Dhs 0.50 per minute. The minimum fare also remains the same for customers, however there are slight changes in the structuring. Earlier the minimum fare was Dhs 17 and booking fee was Dhs 3. Now, the minimum fare is Dhs 15 and booking fee is Dhs 5.
“The change is in compliance with local regulations in Dubai, and in line with maintaining full transparency with riders regarding its prices”, Uber announced in its statement. “Uber remains committed to providing you with the best quality service at any time of the day. We look forward to keeping Dubai moving!” it said.
In an email sent to customers, Uber said the changes would result in higher fares on some trips, while fares will be lower on other trips. You’ll be able to see the fare breakdown in the pricing displayed before booking your ride.
