Wigs, waffles and wisecracks are just a few of the wonderful things we all know and love about the hit Netflix show, Stranger Things.
But amidst all of the average teenage woes, there's a whole heap of paranormal activity going on - which is actually based on real events.
Okay, so the whole story isn't exactly non-fiction but the town is! Hawkins, Indiana - where the show is set, is based on a town in Montauk, New York called Camp Hero.
And some pretty weird things went on in Camp Hero
Although Camp Hero is a beautiful piece of land that sits on a peninsula along the Atlantic Ocean with one of the most popular spots for a hike and a picnic, it actually has a dark past.
Over the years, the property has gained legendary status among people who claim it has an underground facility once used for human experiments in time travel, mind control, and even extraterrestrial contact.

People who claimed they were used as human experiments in the facility came forward to explain, in pretty gruesome detail, about what they went through.
