Following the allegations of sexual assault on actor Kevin Spacey, Netflix has cancelled ‘House of Cards.’ Just 12 hours after the claims were made, the streaming service made the decision to axe the show, one of Netflix’s most popular. The allegations made by Star Trek star Anthony Rapp were that Spacey sexually assaulted him at a party in Spacey’s New York City apartment in the 1980s.
Spacey responded to the allegations by saying that he does “not remember,” the incident and then stated that he chooses “now to live as a gay man.” Netflix and producers Media Rights Capital had previously discussed cancelling the show.
In a joint response, the companies said, “Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey. In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”
This is the latest instalment in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal that highlights the amount of sexual abuse in the film industry. The scandal is continuing to grow.
