A metro station guard was attacked outside the Al Twar station. Two men were trying to steal bicycles locked at Al Twar’s metro station, they then hit the guard who was trying to stop them with a hammer.
According to reports, one man had already managed to unlock the bicycles and was ready to leave, while one of them was trying to break the lock.
After the guard yelled, the men - an unemployed Emirati man and a student from Comoros Islands, allegedly hit him with a hammer. The guard’s coworkers came to his rescue. The men had managed to break the locks, stole the bicycles and escaped.
Police arrived at the location and apprehended the two men while the remaining suspects, who turned out to be juveniles, were arrested later and are being tried before the Juveniles Court.
Prosecutors accused the suspects of beating the guard with a hammer and trying to steal bicycles, however, they pleaded not guilty when they appeared Thursday before the Dubai Court of First Instance
The Indian guard testified to prosecutors saying, “once I walked out, one of them had already unlocked a bicycle while the other was hammering the lock of another bicycle. The suspect who was holding the hammer came towards me and tried to strike me but I dodged the attack. More persons, who had already stolen bicycles, came from the other side wanting to assist the suspects … I ran back into the station. The suspect hurled the hammer at me and it hit my backpack. I managed to restrain one of the suspects and handed him over to my co-worker.”
