Using someone else’s ID could land you in jail. A Pakistani worker has been sentenced to three months in jail after he used a friend’s ID to purchase SIM cards. The 36-year-old was found guilty of forgery and fraud and was also fined Dhs 150,000 by a Dubai court.
The man used the IDs to buy the SIM cards in order to help a fleeing man forge electronic documents. He was charged with the wrongful use of another person’s ID as well as breach of trust and embezzling Dhs 5,000 that his friend had given to him for his assistance.
The complainant said, ”On March 18, I gave the accused Dh5,000, my passport and Emirates ID to open a traffic file for me at a driving institute,"
"However, one week later he gave me back my documents saying he could not open the file for me but would not return the money to me. In addition, I was surprised to find that four mobile numbers were issued in my name."
The man is set to face deportation after serving his sentence.
