Watch: First UAE-built sports car heads to Le Mans

Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has transported the first car designed and built entirely in the UAE to France where it will be exhibited during the prestigious ‘24 hours of Le Mans’ endurance race.

Design-1 is a sports car designed and built in the UAE by Jannarelly Automotive with Equation Composites – the first company to have acquired a car manufacturing licence in the country.

Inspired by the classic sports cars of the 1960s, the Jannarelly Design-1 is a lightweight retro-futuristic car built using hi-tech composite materials and is valued between USD $70,000 and USD $90,000.

Anthony Jannarelly, the man behind this special car, is also the designer who styled W Motors’ supercars. Powered by a mid-mounted 304bhp 3.5-litre V6 and a lightweight composite body over a steel tubular frame, the two-seater rear-drive roadster has a six-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential and a 70-litre fuel tank perfect for proper grand touring.
