If you are in Abu Dhabi you may notice that some parking bays have been painted pink and white. That’s because nearly 200 women-only 'pink parking spaces' have been introduced in multi-storey parking buildings in Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport have allocated 182 parking bays for women to help maintain their privacy and save them from spending time in search for parking.
Twenty-six spots are located on Hamdan Street behind Liwa Centre; 18 in the corniche area; 28 behind Trianon Hotel off Fatima bint Mubarak Street; 18 behind Health Authority Abu Dhabi; 26 on Liwa Street; 25 behind Al Noor Hospital on Khalifa Street; and 41 in Al Dana area, behind the offices of Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council.
Mawaqif inspectors will be ensuring that the women-only parking spaces are not used by male motorists. The municipality has warned that offenders will be fined Dhs 500 for illegal parking and their vehicles will be impounded.
Al Wahda Mall had in February this year introduced pink parking spaces, with about 80 free parking spaces on their ground floor exclusively for female shoppers.
The initiative, which was the first of its kind in the Capital, was launched to ease parking and provide convenience for the mall's female shoppers.
