The UAE Ministry of Interior, alongside the Federal Traffic Council and local police authorities, has called on motorists across the UAE to sign up for the annual 'Accident-Free Day' campaign on 31 August 2026. Drivers who pledge online and avoid committing traffic violations or causing accidents on the day will receive a reduction of four black points from their driving records.
Timed to coincide with the opening day of the 2026 - 2027 academic year, the nationwide initiative aims to curb road casualties and ease traffic congestion as school buses, parents, and commuters return to major road networks in heavy volumes.
Motorists can register for the campaign from Monday, 17 August 2026, at 10amm via the link on the Ministry of Interior’s official social media channel (@MOIUAE) to access the official registration portal.
Drivers must complete the online form, sign the traffic safety pledge, and adhere strictly to all road regulations throughout 31 August. The four-point reduction will be processed automatically for verified participants who maintain a clean record on the day.
The Ministry has outlined essential driving practices required during the campaign:
- Inspecting vehicle roadworthiness and tyre safety before set-off.
- Strictly respecting speed limits, particularly in marked school zones.
- Avoiding mobile phone usage and other electronic distractions behind the wheel.
- Maintaining safe tailgating distances and lane discipline.
- Giving clear right of way to pedestrians at zebra crossings.
Authorities emphasised that while the point reduction serves as an incentive, the ultimate objective is converting single-day compliance into a long-term driving culture across UAE highways.
