A 528-metre pedestrian and cycling bridge spanning Sheikh Zayed Road has officially opened to the public, establishing a dedicated, traffic-free crossing over Dubai’s busiest transport corridor.
Constructed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the new five-metre-wide structure connects Dubai Hills to Al Sufouh and Jumeirah via Hessa Street. The deck features a segregated three-metre lane dedicated to cyclists and e-scooter riders alongside a two-metre path for pedestrians.
Designed with an open, interwoven structural frame, the bridge offers panoramic views of the Sheikh Zayed Road skyline while safeguarding non-motorised road users from high-speed highway traffic below.
The completed project forms part of RTA’s strategic master plan to expand Dubai’s dedicated cycling network to 1,000 kilometres by 2030.
For users, the overpass eliminates major physical barriers previously created by arterial highways. The bridge enables seamless active transport options between residential zones, beachside districts, and employment hubs without reliance on motor vehicles.
