RTA Begins Smart Motion-Sensor Upgrades On 30 Pedestrian Bridges Across Dubai

RTA / X

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has commenced an infrastructure project to upgrade lighting systems across 30 key pedestrian bridges in Dubai using energy-efficient, motion-sensor LED technology.

The upgrade fits bridges with automated sensors that illuminate fully when pedestrian movement is detected. The system reduces power consumption and maintenance costs while ensuring clear visibility during evening hours.

The complete 30-bridge scheme is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. Prior to installation, field surveys and light-metre tests were conducted at each site to ensure illumination meets international safety specifications.

Residents navigating Dubai on foot gain safer, better-lit crossings near bus stops, metro stations, and high-density residential neighbourhoods, making evening walking safer and more accessible.
