The completion of the first passenger station for Etihad Rail, in Fujairah, has been announced, marking a key milestone in the country’s rail network development.
The station was visited by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, and His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs, and Chairman of Etihad Rail.
While freight services are already operational on parts of the network, this update signals progress towards passenger travel becoming a reality.
The Etihad Rail project aims to connect all seven emirates, linking major cities and industrial areas through a modern railway system. Once operational, passenger trains are expected to provide a faster and more efficient alternative to road travel.
Construction work is continuing across multiple phases, including track expansion and additional station development.
The project is expected to play an important role in reducing road congestion, supporting economic growth and offering more sustainable transport options across the UAE.
