The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre has unveiled the first images captured by its newest satellites, MBZ-SAT and Etihad-SAT, coinciding with World Space Week 2025 which runs until 10 October and celebrates science and technology.
The release marks a milestone in the UAE’s growing strength in satellite imaging, with the two systems working together to deliver highly detailed Earth observation data for diverse applications.
The images captured by the two satellites will be useful for government agencies, research institutions and private sector partners. This is particularly relevant as it boosts the UAE's ability to respond more efficiently to global challenges including climate change, food security and urban development.
Launched earlier this year, MBZ-SAT is the most advanced optical-imaging satellite in the region, capable of capturing images with twice the precision of previous models. Developed by Emirati engineers and manufactured largely within the UAE, it stands as a symbol of local innovation and expertise.
Etihad-SAT adds another layer of capability by capturing images in all weather and lighting conditions, vital for maritime navigation, agriculture and disaster management.
