Dubai’s commitment to become a greener, more sustainable city continues, with its consistent efforts. In the first half of 2025 alone, Dubai Municipality completed a series of landscaping and afforestation projects valued at Dhs 190 million, planting over 300,000 trees and seedlings across the emirate.
The projects, covering more than 3 million square metres, focused on key roads and intersections such as Al Khail Road, Sheikh Zayed Road, and Al Khawaneej Street. Native species like ghaf, sidr, and neem were used alongside ornamental trees to improve both environmental resilience and aesthetic appeal.
Smart irrigation systems powered by Internet of Things (IoT) technology have also been introduced to ensure real-time monitoring, enabling water efficiency and sustainable growth. This is a reflection of Dubai’s commitment to innovation in urban development.
His Excellency Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, noted that the initiative directly supports the urban environment pillar of Dubai’s Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which aims to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal and sustainability by increasing green spaces and improving overall environmental quality.
In a creative design flourish, the intersection at Al Khail Road and Latifa bint Hamdan Street now features vertical lighting inspired by traditional Arab motifs, with colour changes marking national events and celebrations.
By the end of the first quarter of 2025, Dubai Municipality was managing more than 5.5 million trees and seedlings, 8.7 million square metres of green areas, 2 million square metres of seasonal flowers and 6.3 million square metres of ground covers, signalling Dubai’s long-term investment in a more liveable, sustainable urban future.
