Wizz Air To Cease Abu Dhabi Operations

Wizz Air

Low-cost airline Wizz Air has announced it will exit its Abu Dhabi operations, suspending all flights based in the UAE capital from 1 September. The decision comes amid what the airline describes as mounting operational challenges, including supply chain constraints, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and limited market access.

Wizz Air was launched as a joint venture between Wizz Air Holdings and Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund ADQ, aimed at offering budget-friendly travel options across the region.

Jozsef Varadi, CEO of Wizz Air said in a statement, "Supply chain constraints, geopolitical instability, and limited market access have made it increasingly difficult to sustain our original ambitions...While this was a difficult decision, it is the right one given the circumstances”.

The airline will now shift its focus to its core markets in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Austria, Italy, and the UK.
