Workers in the UAE across both the public and private sectors will enjoy a three-day weekend at the end of June. This follows the official confirmation of the public holiday for Islamic New Year for public and private sectors.

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources first confirmed that Friday, 27 June will be a public holiday for government employees. Later, the same date was confirmed as a holiday for private sector employees by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Falling on a Friday, the holiday means a long weekend break when combined with Saturday and Sunday, offering the UAE community a moment for reflection and a well-timed pause in the summer heat.

The Islamic New Year, also called Hijri New Year, commemorates Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) migration or Hijra from Mecca to Medina and marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar.
