If you've ever wished your daily commute in Dubai could be a little faster or more efficient, there’s good news on the horizon.

As part of Dubai Artifical Intelligence (AI) Week, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched its AI Strategy 2030, a major plan to transform public transport and traffic management using smart technology.

What’s the goal?
To make life easier for everyone in Dubai. The strategy includes 81 AI-powered projects that aim to:

  • Cut travel time by 20 to 30 percent by improving traffic signal systems and pedestrian mobility.

  • Boost productivity by up to 40 percent through AI tools for staff.

  • Reduce operational costs by 10 to 20 percent with smart asset management and predictive maintenance.

  • Raise customer happiness by up to 35 percent by improving services and reducing delays.

RTA is doing this through Big Data and AI. Their massive data platform and digitally integrated systems help power practical tools like:

  • Predicting when buses need maintenance

  • Estimating how full parking lots are

  • Analysing feedback from commuters

  • Improving metro and bus network planning

  • Saving water and electricity in metro operations

Even RTA’s chatbot 'Mahboub' is getting a smart upgrade with generative AI. RTA is currently reviewing 45 new AI use cases, including energy-saving plans and smarter transport scheduling. By 2030, these AI tools aim to build a more seamless and responsive transportation system for everyone in Dubai.
