Dubai has launched ‘Erth Dubai’, an ambitious initiative dedicated to documenting the emirate’s history and cultural heritage. Announced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, the initiative invites community members to share personal stories and experiences that showcase Dubai’s transformation over the years.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the importance of preserving Dubai’s identity, stating: “Erth Dubai will ensure that our cultural legacy not only endures but also continues to inspire future generations, reinforcing our commitment to preserving the emirate’s cultural identity – a cornerstone that has strengthened Dubai’s renaissance and progress to this day. Through this initiative, we will safeguard the legacy of our ancestors, ensuring it is passed down to our children and grandchildren.”
A Digital Archive For Dubai’s History
The initiative will establish a comprehensive digital archive, making historical and cultural records easily accessible for researchers and the public. Schools, families and individuals are encouraged to share their memories, family stories, and achievements, ensuring that Dubai’s past is preserved in a meaningful and personal way.
Community Participation And Schools Campaign
‘Erth Dubai’ will be rolled out in phases throughout 2025, beginning with public submissions. A specialised jury will assess the entries to ensure authenticity and historical accuracy.
In collaboration with Knowledge and Human Development Authority, a schools campaign will encourage students to document the stories of their parents and grandparents, fostering a deeper connection to Dubai’s rich history.
By engaging the community in storytelling and documentation, ‘Erth Dubai’ will serve as a living archive, ensuring that the emirate’s past continues to shape its future.
