The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced that its annual national seasonal influenza awareness campaign will begin on 9 September. Titled 'Immunise Yourself...Protect Your Community,' the campaign will be launched in collaboration with Emirates Health Services, Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, Department of Health Abu Dhabi and Dubai Health Authority.

This initiative aims to strengthen MoHAP’s ongoing preventive and community health programs, ensuring comprehensive health coverage and improving quality of life across the UAE. The campaign will focus on educating the public about the importance of seasonal influenza vaccination, enhancing medical professionals' skills with the latest international practices, and increasing vaccine coverage for key groups.

Targeting all segments of the population, including citizens, residents, government and private sector employees, and healthcare workers, the campaign will pay special attention to those at higher risk of severe flu complications, such as the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic conditions.

MoHAP’s flu campaign is part of a broader national strategy to immunise the community and safeguard public health. It emphasises the importance of vaccination and the benefits of disease prevention. The campaign will support MoHAP’s goal of enhancing the country’s healthcare system through close collaboration with relevant health authorities to maximise societal benefits.

This annual initiative seeks to implement effective preventive measures to limit the spread of influenza while educating the public about its causes, symptoms, and prevention methods. In partnership with strategic allies, MoHAP aims to make its awareness programs accessible and engaging, ensuring everyone receives the vaccine before flu season begins, thus reducing disease complications.

Seasonal influenza, according to the World Health Organisation, is an acute respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses. While most people recover without treatment, influenza spreads easily through coughing or sneezing. Vaccination remains the most effective method to prevent and control the disease.
