On Sunday, 9 June 2024, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) inaugurated a major bridge as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project. This project includes the construction of four bridges, spanning a total length of 2,874 metres and accommodating 17,600 vehicles per hour. The newly completed 666-metre, 2-lane bridge has a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. It enhances traffic flow by separating traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to the service road leading to the entrances of Jumeirah Golf Estate and Dubai Production City.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, announced that the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project has reached a 90% completion rate. The project serves as a vital connection between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, enhancing traffic movement among Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, and Al Asayel Street.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer said, "Upon completion, the project will reduce the distance and travel time from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Qusais and Deira by 40%, from 20 to 12 minutes during peak hours. It will also decrease the journey time for motorists travelling from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road heading towards Al Yalayes Street in the direction of Jebel Ali Port by 70%, from 21 minutes to 7 minutes."
What To Know About The Four Bridges
The project consists of constructing four bridges. The first, spanning 943 metres, connects Garn Al Sabkha Street and Al Asayel Street, easing traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
The second, a two-lane bridge of 601 metres, facilitates traffic from Garn Al Sabkha Street towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street and northward.
The third, spanning 664 metres, allows smooth traffic by separating vehicles from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road heading north.
The fourth, opened recently, is 666 metres long and serves two lanes. The project also includes 7km of road improvements, enhancing intersections and infrastructure. It aligns with RTA's strategy to develop key traffic routes and support Dubai's mobility networks.
