His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has approved the second phase of a project dedicated to conserving Dubai’s heritage architecture. This initiative, part of a broader effort to protect the emirate's cultural and architectural legacy, aims to safeguard significant historical areas, sites, and buildings that narrate Dubai's story. The focus of this phase is on preserving 35 areas, sites, and buildings dating from the 1960s to the 1990s, following the successful completion of the first phase, which concentrated on earlier historical buildings in Dubai.
Importance Of The Second Phase
In the project's second phase, 35 heritage sites and buildings in Dubai, including old neighbourhoods, will undergo restoration. Described by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan as an 'open museum of human heritage', these areas hold decades of memories and represent Dubai's renaissance.
Situated amidst modern Dubai, they connect the past with the city's future aspirations, showcasing Dubai's evolution. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan aims to enhance the appeal of historical areas and modern landmarks to attract more visitors, underscoring a commitment to national identity and elevating Dubai's global stature.
With the second phase, the total number of sites covered reaches 807, including 17 archaeological sites, 14 historical areas, and 741 buildings from the initial phase. This comprehensive preservation effort intertwines Dubai's past, present, and future, inviting the world to experience its rich heritage.
