Driving while you are tired is dangerous not only for you but also for others on the road. And to ensure the safety of motorists, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) urges drivers to avoid getting behind the wheel when feeling exhausted or drowsy, particularly during Ramadan, when changed eating and sleeping patterns tend to reduce attentiveness.
RTA is warning drivers about the dangers of driving while tired, especially during Ramadan. This warning comes as some drivers may struggle to stay focused due to changes in their eating and sleeping habits during the Holy Month. To address this issue, the RTA is launching an awareness campaign throughout Ramadan as part of its ongoing efforts to promote traffic safety in Dubai.
RTA Collaborates With Government And Private Entities For Safety Campaigns
The authority is urging drivers to embrace the spirit of Ramadan by being more mindful on the roads, obeying traffic laws, and respecting the rights of other road users. Infact, in 2023, the RTA conducted over 270 awareness events as part of its traffic safety strategy, which emphasises the value of every human life. These efforts have significantly reduced traffic-related fatalities in Dubai by approximately 93% from 2007 to 2023, positioning the city as a global leader in traffic safety.
And now, in 2024, RTA has collaborated with various government and private entities, including the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, Damac Properties, Tokyo Marine Insurance Company, Bin Yaber Driving Institute, and Tristar Company, for various awareness activities for Ramadan. These activities aim to reach a wider audience through field events and social media platforms.
Banners displaying awareness messages are placed at Iftar tents across Dubai, and thousands of leaflets have been distributed with Iftar meals, targeting groups such as taxi and bus drivers, truck drivers, and pedestrians.
Drivers are urged to be extra cautious, particularly when returning home from work, as fatigue can impair decision-making abilities. The RTA advises drivers to schedule rest breaks when needed and to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
