RTA Opens Al Majasimi And Al Wasl Road Intersection, Reducing Travel Time To 30 Seconds

Dubai motorists crossing Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street can drive with ease as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed an improvement project. The RTA has unveiled a new signalised junction at Al Majasimi intersection and Al Wasl Road, positioned between Umm Suqeim Street and Al Thanya Street. This project has also managed to reduce the travel time from Umm Suqeim 3 northward to Al Wasl Road from 3 minutes to 30 seconds.

Highlights Of The Development Project

This initiative also involved installing traffic signals to streamline traffic flow and facilitate vehicles exiting from Umm Suqeim 3 towards Al Wasl Road. Additionally, the project included widening Al Majasimi Street from one to two lanes in each direction across a 200-metre stretch leading up to the intersection.

By opening a new junction at the intersection of Al Majasimi and Al Wasl Road, traffic capacity has significantly increased. The widening of Al Majasimi Street from single to dual lanes in both directions has doubled its capacity from 1,200 to 2,400 vehicles per hour in each direction.

Now, drivers can make left turns from Al Majasimi Street onto Al Wasl Road, eliminating the previous need to turn right onto Umm Suqeim Street and then perform a U-turn on Al Wasl Road.

This change has notably eased congestion at the intersection of Al Wasl Road with Umm Suqeim Street, reducing traffic density on the turn.

These improvements align with RTA's Quick Traffic Improvements Plan 2024, which aims to enhance the road network, alleviate congestion, and enhance traffic safety standards throughout the emirate.
