The Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence has announced that 'Operation Chivalrous Knight 2' in Syria and Turkey, has come to an end.
The operation was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, after the two countries were hit by two earthquakes on 6 February, leaving over 50,000 dead and around 107,000 people injured.
Through the operation, dozens of people were rescued from the rubble and 13,463 people were treated.
Over 15,000 tons of humanitarian aid was sent, including 6,912 tons of emergency supplies such as tents, food and medicines, as well as 8,252 tons of humanitarian aid was transported through four cargo ships, delivering relief and reconstruction materials to the affected areas.
Through the Emirates Red Crescent, the first project of 1,000 residential units are being constructed in Syria, to provide shelter to those affected by the earthquake, reaching 30% completion. The second project will see 500 residential units, a clinic, a mosque and a commercial complex built.
