His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in a post on Twitter, announced the first licence for self-driving vehicles has been approved.
The licence was given to WeRide, a company based in China that develops autonomous driving vehicles.
WeRide offers robotaxi, robobus, robovan and robosweepers, and the company's services include ride-hailing, on-demand transport and urban logistics.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said, "We also approved today, within the Council of Ministers, the first national license for self-driving vehicles on the country’s roads, which was granted to the specialised WeRide company."
