A Dubai resident, Hamish Harding, Founder of Action Aviation, has reportedly gone missing, along with one pilot and three other passengers onboard the Titanic submarine.
An avid explorer, Hamish Harding posted on Instagram about the expedition, where he shared his excitement to be a part of the mission. After one of the worst winter seasons in Newfoundland, a weather window opened, allowing the submarine to take explorers to go on the expedition.
In the latest post on his social media, Hamish Harding said, "Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023. A weather window has just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive tomorrow. We started steaming from St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada yesterday and are planning to start dive operations around 4am tomorrow morning. Until then we have a lot of preparations and briefings to do."
The submarine Polar Prince transports visitors to the site of the Titanic shipwreck which struck an iceberg in 1912.
The dive took place on Sunday, 18 June, and one hour and 45 minutes after the dive, contact with the submarine was lost 1,448 kilometres east from Cape Cod in the United States. Rescue teams from the United States and Canada were launched to search for it.
The expedition explores the wreckage of the Titanic ship, 4,000 metres underwater, and during the dives, holds an emergency supply of oxygen for four days, within which the rescue needs to take place.
