The mandatory midday breaks to be given to outdoor workers during summer will start on 15 June.
The initiative is to ensure the safety of workers and reduce the risk of working when temperatures are at their highest. The times the daily breaks will run are from 12.30pm to 3pm.
Certain jobs such as those that tend to emergencies can continue, with workers provided with cold water and first aid kits.
Additionally, a shaded area should be provided for workers to rest during downtime.
Fines ranging from Dhs 5,000 per worker to Dhs 50,000 will be given to companies for not complying with the midday break.
The mandatory midday breaks will be in place for 3 months and run until 15 September.
