REVIEW: Le Cirque at DIFC

All The fun of the fair with some serious foodie flare, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more theatrical dining experience than that of Le Cirque. Carnies with an affinity for the finer things in life will feel right at home at this swanky, upscale French-Italian restaurant. Le Cirque opened in the city after 40 years of success in its original location of New York and was favourited by Jackie Onassis - so if it’s good enough for the former First Lady!

Walking into the restaurant feels like an escape with the dim-lighting creating a subtle hint of an alluring New York City hotspot. As the name suggests, Le Cirque is nothing short of a spectacle, with monkeys, circus balls, tent shades and clown faces lacing the restaurant. The menu reflects the theme as it is organised into three separate acts, which adds a nice touch of theatre. But, it definitely does not stop there are the food itself is the most flamboyant element in this colourful experience. Engaging in a balancing act between flavour and presentation, the food tantalises throughout the whole journey from your eyes to tastebuds. Although we were painfully inclined to order absolutely everything, we opted for veal carpaccio, steak tartare and in true French style, escargot oozing in garlic butter. The portions were incredibly generous and perfect for sharing the magic of flavour between two. Moving to the main course, which was definitely the star of the show, we selected a dish from the sharing menu - lobster with chilli and lime, alongside a portion of potato gratin. And, quite frankly, if that lobster hasn’t won an award already, we’d be happy to give it one. The main was cooked to perfection with a creamy, light sauce infused with zesty flavour. Last into the ring was the dessert in the form of a chocolate fondant with coconut sorbet and a strawberry vacherin which rounded off a perfect meal with some sweetness. From the food to the atmosphere and the energy of the staff, Le Cirque undoubtedly puts on the greatest show. Expect to pay around Dhs 300 for a three-course meal excluding drinks.
