His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched Al Marmoom, the UAE’s first unfenced conservation area, which in total covers 10 percent of the Emirate of Dubai. Dubai is known for its urban glamour but the emirate has so much to offer in its surrounding desert lands, and Al Marmoon provides a great setting to showcase this.
"Preserving and investing in the environment means preserving and investing in one of our most important assets.” stated Sheikh Mohammed at the launch, "The Marmoom Reserve is an environmental, touristic and sporting addition to life in the UAE."
It will be an amazing place to visit as it will house 40 acres of land to 204 different types of birds, 10km of lakes, and will include observation platforms, an outdoor theatre, and areas for yoga. Sustainability and the environment is key and the area will be powered by a 5,000 megawatt solar plant. The new Dubai attraction will also attract more than 15,000 participants in annual sporting events and will have the longest desert cycling track in the world at around 100km in length.
