Delivery riders in Dubai will no longer be allowed to use fast lanes starting 1 November, under new safety rules announced by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police. The move comes amid a sharp rise in delivery-related traffic incidents.
Under the new regulations, delivery riders are banned from using the two leftmost lanes on roads with five lanes or more, and the leftmost lane on three or four-lane roads. Delivery riders are not prohibited from using roads with two lanes or fewer.
Authorities have also introduced a fine system: Dhs 500 for the first violation, Dhs 700 for the second, and suspension of permits upon the third. Riders caught exceeding 100kph speed limits will face additional fines ranging from Dhs 200 to Dhs 400.
New signboards will soon be installed to mark lanes designated for commercial motorcycles, complementing existing signs for heavy vehicles. Officials said the decision follows a surge in both the delivery sector and the number of related accidents, with 962 incidents recorded in 2025, up from 854 last year.
RTA stressed that the changes aim to protect delivery riders and other motorists, ensuring smoother and safer traffic flow across the city. Officials also highlighted how motorcycles are among the most vulnerable means of transport to fatal accidents, with no protective infrastructure around the drivers and probability of losing control at high speeds.
