In a striking show of support for World Mental Health Day, celebrated today, on 10 October, GymNation has removed all weights from several of its gyms across the UAE as well as Saudi Arabia, encouraging members to 'unload' emotionally rather than physically.
The move, which left gym floors bare and dumbbells stacked outside, is part of a powerful campaign reminding people to take care of their mental fitness as much as their physical health. With over 150,000 members across both countries, GymNation’s initiative quickly caught attention on social media.
Rory McEntee, CMO at GymNation said, “The only weight we want people to lift on 10 October is the weight off their mind”.
In collaboration with leading mental health organisation Sage, GymNation will host drop-in mental fitness classes across selected gyms, combining themed workouts with mental health talks and interactive sessions. Participants will also have access to discounted consultations with Sage’s team of professionals.
The classes, which are free, will be open to its members and also the public, with sessions including 'Les Mills Ceremony' at 6pm in Downtown Dubai, 'Zumba' at 6.45pm in Dubai Silicon Oasis branch, and 'Les Mills Bodypump' at 7.45pm in Bur Dubai.
