In this feature, Charlotte Sotomi speaks with Connector about her teaching journey, experiences, and how she makes daily classes interesting.

What inspired you to start teaching?

Working in a behaviour unit in the UK showed me how powerful early support can be in
changing a child’s path, and that stayed with me.

How did you decide to teach your current subject?

Early Years felt natural to me. Those early foundations shape confidence, well-being, and a love of learning for life.

Why do you love teaching?

I love watching children grow in confidence and realise they can do hard things.

Do you remember your favourite teacher from school?

Yes, my geography teacher. He made learning exciting and genuinely fun.

How do you make everyday classes more interesting?

I bring energy, warmth, and creativity, using the IB approach to encourage enquiry, reflection,
and safe risk-taking, so learning feels active and meaningful for every child.

What is a unique part of your school?

Our bilingual environment builds confidence, curiosity, and open-mindedness from a very young age
age.

What would you do if you were not a teacher?

I would work in child advocacy or pastoral care, still supporting children’s wellbeing. I’d also love a role that allows me to work outdoors, perhaps combining this with my passion for horse riding, such as training horses.
