Abu Dhabi is making it easier than ever to drive electric. As part of a major sustainability push, The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), also known as Abu Dhabi Mobility, has announced the installation of 1,000 new electronic vehicle (EV) charging stations across 400 key locations, from Abu Dhabi Island to Al Ain and Al Dhafra. The new charging stations will operate under the unified brand name 'Charge AD'.

The rollout marks the first phase of a wider public-private partnership project aimed at expanding access to electric charging points throughout the emirate, including in hotels, shopping centres and other key public areas.

Drivers will benefit from standardised rates of Dhs 0.70 per kilowatt-hour for AC chargers and Dhs 1.20 for the DC chargers, which provides faster charging for the vehicles.

With more than 15,000 EVs already registered in the first quarter of this year, a 60% jump from the numbers during the same period last year, the initiative supports Abu Dhabi’s plan to make half of all vehicles electric by 2040, and its broader target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Dr. Abdulla Hamed Al Ghfeli, Acting Director General of the ITC, called it a major step toward a smarter, cleaner, and more efficient transport future.
