If you’re trying to hail a taxi during rush hour or just stepped out of Dubai International Airport, you might be approached by individuals posing as taxi drivers offering to drop you off at your destination. While they may appear at the right time, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued a clear warning: these individuals could be operating unauthorised and illegal taxis.
To protect commuters, the RTA took to social media, urging the public to be vigilant and check for key features before boarding any taxi in Dubai:
-
Coloured roofs: Official Dubai taxis have roofs in red, blue, green, yellow, orange or pink.
-
RTA branding: Look for the RTA logo on the vehicle.
-
Driver uniform: Only licenced drivers wear the official RTA uniform.
-
Metered fare: All authorised taxis are fitted with visible, controlled fare meters.
Additionally, Dubai taxis also have surveillance cameras to monitor driver behaviour and enhance passenger safety. The RTA emphasised that unauthorised taxis will not have any of these features and urged the public to avoid boarding such vehicles, especially in high-traffic locations and airport terminals.
For a safe journey, always opt for a registered RTA taxi or book through official ride-hailing apps.
