Pupils Shine At Tournament Of Minds 2024 UAE Regionals

Brighton College Dubai recently hosted the UAE regionals of The Tournament of Minds (TOM), an acclaimed Australian educational competition aimed at developing students' critical and creative thinking abilities. Five schools from Dubai and Abu Dhabi took part in this latest edition, with over 90 pupils forming 13 teams. The event promoted a competitive yet collaborative atmosphere, where students tackled a range of spontaneous and long-term challenges set within global and topical contexts.

The participating schools included: the American Academy for Girls Dubai, Brighton College Abu Dhabi, Brighton College Dubai, Dubai British School Jumeirah Park and Private International English School Abu Dhabi. Each school showcased their dedication to cultivating their pupils' creative and critical thinking capabilities.

Following six weeks of rigorous preparation and presentations before a panel of judges, the winners were revealed. 

In the Social Sciences Primary category, Brighton College Dubai’s team, Brighton Clash, clinched the top spot, while Dubai British School Jumeirah Park’s Primary GenJP received recognition. 

In the STEM Primary category, Private International English School's Primary Team secured first place, while Brighton College Dubai’s team, Brighton Saviours, was honoured. 

In the STEM Senior category, Dubai British School Jumeirah Park’s team, JPGeniuses, emerged victorious, with Brighton College Dubai’s team, STEMinists, earning recognition.

How Does The Tournament Work?

  • The Tournament of Minds is renowned for its innovative educational approach, encouraging experimentation and problem-solving among talented primary and secondary school students.
  • Students are grouped into teams and engage in various disciplines including STEM, The Arts, Language Literature, and Social Sciences.
  • Teams are assessed based on creativity, scientific comprehension, technology utilisation, application of STEM concepts, design and construction abilities, presentation proficiency, and overall performance, ensuring a holistic evaluation.
  • Tournament of Minds aligns with international curricula, promoting critical and creative thinking while equipping participants with vital skills necessary for the evolving global landscape.
