During the Holy Month of Ramadan, Emirates, Dubai's leading airline, has launched exclusive Iftar meals to ensure a smooth travel experience for fasting passengers. Emirates will distribute numerous meal boxes onboard and at boarding gates, feature varied religious content and popular TV shows on ice (Emirate's inflight entertainment), and provide traditional Ramadan dishes in the lounges, catering to the needs and preferences of all travellers during the Holy Month.
What Can Passengers Expect At The Lounges
During Ramadan, Emirates lounges at Dubai International Airport (DXB) will offer traditional Arabic sweets, dates, and coffee. First and Business Class lounges will serve a range of hot and cold Arabic mezze, lentil soup, main courses such as Arabic mixed grill with tahina and chicken kabsa with dakous and raita, and desserts like kunafa pistachio cream, basboussa saffron, walnut kathayef ashta, and ice cream flavours like Arabic coffee and dates or baklawa. Emirates lounges also has dedicated prayer rooms and ablution facilities, ensuring a serene environment for worship.
Iftar Boxes At The Boarding Gate
If you're boarding an Emirates flight during Iftar time or after, Emirates has you covered with Iftar boxes. At select Emirates Boarding Gates during Iftar time, fasting passengers will receive complimentary Iftar boxes to break their fast. These boxes contain water, laban, a banana, and dates, ensuring passengers can break their fast comfortably.
Iftar On Board And Iftar Time Announcement
To ensure fasting Muslim passengers' accuracy, Emirates employs a unique tool to calculate Imsak (the time to begin fasting) and Iftar timings in-flight. This tool utilises the aircraft’s longitude, latitude, and altitude to determine sunrise and sunset times of the flight location. Passengers are officially notified of Iftar time by the captain once the sun sets.
For onboard meals, passengers breaking their fast in all cabin classes receive nutritionally balanced Ramadan meal boxes. These Iftar meals are served in specially designed boxes by Emirates, reflecting the rich Emirati heritage of Al Sadu weavers. Al Sadu, a traditional weaving practised by Bedouin women in the UAE, features distinctive geometric patterns, symbolising community unity during the Holy Month.
Emirates’ Ramadan meal boxes include light bites like hummus with spinach and Arabic bread, tabbouleh with baba ghanoush, and sandwiches featuring Moroccan or zaatar chicken with pickled garlic mayonnaise. Sweet treats such as almond chocolate or Arabic baklawa, cashew nut, and pine seed baklawa flowers are also included, along with traditional dates and refreshing laban. These Ramadan boxes complete the regular hot meal service onboard.
