We all have aches and pains as we age, however fracturing a vertebra in my neck a few years ago means if I don’t take care of myself properly I can really suffer. I can be really nervous of seeing new doctors but Dr Aleta L. Bezzic had been recommended and I was in so much pain at the time I decided to set aside my fears. Dr Bezzic is the Chiropractic Physician at Canadian Medical Centre, she specialises in the Cox Flexion Distraction method with spinal decompression.
What’s involved?
We discussed the treatment, any medical conditions I had and areas of pain. I can normally be quite stoic but this time I had to indicate I was already at the highest level of pain. I lay down on my front and the bed automatically flexed my legs up and down to stretch out my spine while Dr Bezzic applied light pressure on different areas of my back to assist with the stretch. After this she used a tool called the “activator” that gave quick, painless thuds along my spine either side and into my right shoulder (much worse than my left), this again helps to release areas of tension.
Turning over, Dr Bezzic first did some traction using a towel around my neck, something I hadn’t experienced before. It wasn’t painful but it was a bit uncomfortable as it basically stretched out my whole back. Finally, I was manipulated into various positions and with each exhale I experienced the “pops” as each area were manipulated.
What are the results?
As I was what Dr Bezzic called ‘in crisis’ I did feel a little spacey immediately after the treatment. This passed really quickly and I felt much better and much looser. How often your sessions need to be will obviously depend on our issue and I will be going back this week! Though I really don’t mind, Dr Bezzic was so lovely and knowledgable and I feel so much better it’ll be totally worth it!
