In this feature, Dr Andrew Foggitt shares with Connector his routine for a productive day, to the most difficult case he had to treat.
How does the day begin before heading into work?
The day typically begins with a well-established routine. I wake up early and proceed to freshen up before enjoying a wholesome breakfast. As I nourish my body, I take a moment to check my emails and messages, ensuring I am up to date with any important information.
I then prepare myself for the commute ahead. I carefully select appropriate attire, ensuring I am dressed comfortably and ready for the journey. Additionally, I equip myself with a helmet and other safety gear to prioritise my well-being on the road.
Opting for my electric scooter as my preferred mode of transportation, I embark on my commute to work. Riding my electric scooter grants me a distinct sense of independence. The ability to deftly navigate through traffic allows me to reach my destination with remarkable efficiency. Consequently, I arrive at work promptly, setting a positive tone for the rest of my day.
Overall, my morning routine would not be complete without incorporating my electric scooter commute. Its inclusion not only enhances my daily experience but also serves as a testament to my dedication to sustainable and efficient living.
What was the most difficult case you have had to treat?
A complex trauma case in an elderly patient who had a very confrontational family, whose expectations for their mother’s care I could not meet.
What motivates you to keep coming back to work?
There are several compelling factors that consistently motivate me to return to work each day, but without a doubt, my patients and colleagues stand out as the most significant sources of inspiration. Witnessing the positive impact of my work on the lives of my patients serves as a perpetual driving force. Knowing that I play a role in improving their health and well-being instils within me a profound sense of purpose and fulfilment. Whether I am aiding a patient in their recovery from illness or offering solace and support to those in need, every interaction reinforces the reasons behind my choice of this profession.
Furthermore, the unwavering dedication, passion, and diligent efforts exhibited by my colleagues in delivering the highest standard of care truly inspire me. Collaborating with such exceptional individuals who share the same commitment creates an atmosphere of support and camaraderie that I eagerly anticipate each day. Working alongside this talented and compassionate team fosters an environment that encourages cooperation and collaboration, propelling me to continuously strive for excellence and personal growth. The camaraderie and shared purpose we share as a team are invaluable assets that fuel my drive to consistently perform at my best.
In essence, my patients and colleagues serve as the pillars that uphold my motivation to return to work with enthusiasm and gratitude. I am genuinely appreciative of the opportunity to collaborate with these remarkable individuals who constantly challenge and inspire me.
How did you find your niche in the medical field?
I discovered myself in a department surrounded by engaging and dynamic surgeons whose infectious enthusiasm greatly influenced me, and ever since, I have been passionately dedicated to the field of orthopaedic surgery.
After a busy work day, what do you like to do to unwind?
I derive immense pleasure from meeting and cherishing moments with my loved ones and friends, once I conclude my work for the day.
