St George's Day is celebrated on 23 April and if you have your entire menu planned out and still do not know what to make for dessert, we have you covered.
This hearty and delicious Rhubarb and Apple Crumble made by Chef Hanno van Eeden, Head Chef at Mr Toads at Premier Inn Barsha Heights is easy to make and is sure to have everyone asking for seconds.
The recipe serves four people.
Ingredients:
- 150g frozen red rhubarb
- 200g green apple
- 10g unsalted butter
- 30g granulated sugar
- 100g apple juice
- 5g cornflour
- 1g cinnamon powder
Crumble Ingredients:
- 50g granulated sugar
- 50g flour
- 50g unsalted butter
- 50g whole grain oats
- 50g cinnamon powder
- 1g salt
- 50g vanilla essence
Recipe:
- For the apple and rhubarb filling, heat a skillet pan and add the butter and sugar. Let the butter and sugar caramelise.
- Add the apple and let it cook for about 2 minutes, while continuously stirring.
- Add the rhubarb, cinnamon and apple juice and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove and let it cool down.
- For the crumble, preheat the oven to 170 degrees celsius.
- Add all ingredients for the crumble to a bowl and mix together.
- Add the mixture to a tray with baking paper on it and bake for 15 minutes, mixing the crumble every 3 to 5 minutes to ensure it cooks evenly.
- Bake until golden.
- Add the apple rhubarb mixture to the dish and cover with crumble. Make sure the crumble is spread evenly.
- Bake in oven for 10 to 15 minutes until the filling is warm.
- Serve the dish with ice cream or clotted cream.
