His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry, has passed away at the age of 78.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, brother to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan, shared the news of his passing on Wednesday via his Twitter account.
A ten-day mourning period has been announced in Dubai. The UAE flag will be flown at half-mast during this period.
Work at government departments and institutions will be suspended from Thursday, 25 March for a three day period.
Due to the precautionary measures currently set in place, the funeral prayer will be limited to family members only.
Prayers for His Highness Sheikh Hamdan will be held after Maghrib prayers at all mosques around the UAE.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces has also paid his respects to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan.
