Louvre Abu Dhabi Launches Immersive VR Time Travel Experience

Louvre Abu Dhabi

History just got a high-tech twist at Louvre Abu Dhabi. The museum has launched The Quantum Dome Project, a groundbreaking virtual reality (VR) experience that lets visitors walk through ancient civilisations, not just see them behind glass.

This immersive 25-minute journey transports participants to three richly recreated historical settings, including the Roman Empire, mediaeval Baghdad, and Mughal-era India. Using wireless VR headsets with full-body tracking, up to 10 visitors at a time can roam freely within each virtual world.

From exploring the scale and power of Imperial Rome to flipping pages in Baghdad’s House of Wisdom or standing near Jaipur’s Jal Mahal, the experience offers a vivid dive into lost worlds. And at the heart of each setting lies a real artefact from Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection, including a marble statue of Emperor Augustus, a mediaeval manuscript from Baghdad, and an ornate Mughal suit of armour. These objects serve as your portal into the past.

Developed in collaboration with French production company Small Creative Studio, this cutting-edge exhibition blends narrative storytelling, museum artefacts and immersive tech in a way few cultural institutions have attempted before.

Tickets are priced at Dhs 120, including museum access. Group bookings of four or more enjoy a discounted rate of Dhs 95 per person. This summer, time travel isn’t just for science fiction, it’s a reality waiting in Saadiyat. For more details, see Louvre Abu Dhabi's website
