The UAE is entering a new academic year, as schools across the country open today, with bold changes focusing on cutting-edge technology as well as cultivating national values and identity.
Public schools across the country will introduce artificial intelligence (AI) as a formal subject from kindergarten through Grade 12, making the UAE one of the first nations in the world to embed AI throughout its school system.
Around 1,000 trained teachers will deliver the curriculum, which is built around seven key areas including data and algorithms, ethical awareness, real-world applications, and innovation. Lessons will be adapted to each age group, ensuring students develop a strong foundation before advancing to complex concepts.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education is reinforcing national identity in private schools by requiring Arabic, Islamic Education, and social concepts to be taught from the kindergarten stage. This initiative aims to nurture children who are rooted in their culture, language, and community values.
The new year also introduces a standardised proficiency test for public school students in grades 4 to 11. Covering Arabic, Mathematics and English, the test will initially include 26,000 students, helping teachers identify learning gaps and strengthen essential skills.
