Parkin, the largest provider of paid public parking facilities and services in Dubai, has launched 'Spots for Shops', a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to help drivers receive back their parking fees through the Parkin app. Drivers can do this simply by shopping at participating neighbourhood small businesses.
Under this initiative, customers can get their money back in their Parkin wallet, when they park near participating businesses and spend the required amount there. In effect, the initiative brings the convenience of mall-style free parking to the street, turning parking from a routine expense into a practical incentive that boosts footfall for small businesses.
How 'Spots for Shops' Works
Under the new initiative, residents and visitors can take part in the programme through a simple process:
- Park in any paid Parkin space near a participating business.
- Pay the applicable parking fees for the designated parking zone.
- Make a qualifying purchase, based on the minimum spend set by the merchant.
- Have the parking validated by the merchant through the Parkin app, using the customer’s mobile number as a reference.
- Receive the cashback instantly in the customer’s Parkin wallet.
Speaking on the significance of the campaign, Osama AlSafi, Chief Operating Officer at Parkin said: “Small businesses play a vital role in Dubai’s economic landscape, and ‘Spot for Shops’ reflects how Parkin is reimagining parking as an enabler of urban mobility and local commerce. By seamlessly connecting parking with everyday retail experiences, we are making it easier for customers to access neighbourhood destinations while supporting local businesses and strengthening the wider ecosystem that drives the city’s growth.”
Pilot Phase to Launch This May
The pilot phase will include 15 companies, with the parking redemption through the Parkin app set to go live in early May. Through the initiative, Parkin is introducing a digitally powered platform that allows small businesses to boost customer footfall by offering parking validation and cashback incentives. Participating outlets will be responsible for delivering the cashback benefits to their customers.
By connecting parking with daily retail behaviour, the initiative seeks to create a more balanced urban experience.
