Travellers flying out of Dubai can now secure an International Driving Permit (IDP) in under five minutes directly at Dubai International Airport (DXB).
The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai), in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE), and Amer, has officially launched an instant IDP issuance service located at the Customer Happiness Centre in Terminal 3 Arrivals.
Available 24/7 to UAE citizens and residents holding a valid UAE driving licence, the initiative eliminates the traditional pre-travel lead time required to secure international driving paperwork.
The streamlined workflow uses integrated digital systems across government entities to verify applicant credentials instantly. To use the service on-site, travellers must present:
- Original Emirates ID
- Valid UAE driving licence
- Passport copy
- One passport-sized photograph
Once submitted, background verification and approval occur automatically within five minutes.
For UAE diving licence holders who frequently rent vehicles abroad, this service removes the hassle of visiting physical service centres days before a trip or waiting for delivery courier windows. Travellers who decide to rent a car after arriving at the airport can finalise their documentation right before heading to their departure gates.
