DXB Airport Welcomes 87 Million Passengers In 2023

Dubai has once again achieved a remarkable feat! In 2023, Dubai International Airport (DXB) welcomed 87 million passengers, exceeding both their projections and pre-pandemic levels of traffic. This surge in travellers, representing a 31% increase from the previous year, surpassed the 2019 record of 86.4 million passengers. Dubai Airports announced this milestone on Monday, noting that the figures surpassed their last full-year forecast of 86.8 million passengers.

Commenting on this achievement, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said, "2023 was an exceptional year and is a testament to our unwavering commitment to innovation, efficiency and delivering exemplary guest experience. It translated to DXB achieving its highest internal engagement scores, a reflection of our commitment to fostering a collaborative culture where every contribution is valued, and every employee is empowered to their full potential." 

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai took to X to celebrate this remarkable achievement and said, "With its unmatched infrastructure and service, the airport is today a symbol of excellence and efficiency in the global aviation industry."

Here Are Some Key Highlights And Achievements Of DXB Airport:

  • DXB marked December as its busiest month, with 7.8 million passengers, contributing to 22.4 million guests in the fourth quarter of 2023. Quarter three remained the quarter with the highest traffic since 2019, with 23 million guests, while August, with 7.9 million guests, was the month with the highest traffic.
  • DXB maintained operational excellence, processing a record 77.5 million bags with a remarkable success rate of 99.8%.
  • The airport scored 4.5 in the Airport Service Quality programme, showcasing its commitment to guest satisfaction and service quality.

Top Country Destinations Include:

  • India claimed the top spot with traffic totalling 11.9 million passengers, followed by The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with 6.7 million passengers and the United Kingdom with 5.9 million passengers. 
  • London retained its position as the top destination with 3.7 million passengers, followed by Riyadh with 2.6 million passengers and Mumbai with 2.5 million passengers.

What's In For 2024? 

As per the latest data, DXB is linked to 262 destinations spanning 104 countries, facilitated by 102 international carriers. Looking ahead, early predictions suggest that DXB is expected to host 88.8 million passengers in 2024, bringing the hub close to its previous record of 89.1 million passengers achieved in 2018.
