The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has launched an Dhs 11.5 million "Water Aid" initiative designed to protect outdoor workers from extreme summer heat in the United Arab Emirates and establish long-term water infrastructure abroad.
Under the domestic strategy, the ERC is distributing sunshades and insulated water containers directly to outdoor construction and municipal crews. In collaboration with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, the charitable body is installing and servicing public drinking water coolers at transit hubs, bus stations, and mosques to ensure free hydration access for commuters and daily labourers.
Internationally, the initial funding will support the installation of deep-water storage tanks and piped distribution networks in water-scarce regions affected by prolonged drought.
Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the ERC, stated that the initiative directly addresses health risks amplified by rising global temperatures and global warming, while aligning with national humanitarian goals for the Year of the Family 2026.
