Emirates has completed the ground engine testing using 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
The tests were done on one of the GE90 engines on a Boeing 777-300ER.
Through the tests run, the capability of the engine to run on SAF without affecting its performance, requiring no modifications to the aircraft systems, or special maintenance procedures to operate, was assessed.
SAF reduces carbon emissions over the fuel’s life cycle by up to 80%.
The first experimental test flight using 100% SAF in one engine will take place later on in the week.
