Slumdog Composer To Open A Studio In Dubai

Regardless of how much you know about Bollywood, most people will know the popular soundtrack 'Jai ho' from the Oscar-winning movie 'Slumdog Millionaire'. 

A R Rahman, the Name behind this popular soundtrack, and many others, is opening a state-of-the-art recording studio named The Firdaus Studio by A R Rahman in Dubai. 

The studio is located at the Expo 2020 site and will open its doors to the public in October this year when Expo 2020 kicks off. This studio will not be a temporary installation but a permanent facility in the future city of District 2020.

The recording studio's first project in 2020 is to establish a 50-strong, all-female orchestra named The Firdaus Women’s Orchestra. 

The group will comprise of all women musicians from the UAE and MENA region and will draw on inspiration from the UAE and the region’s centuries-old rich musical traditions that have used instruments such as the oud, rebaba and darbuka.

A R Rahman, a celebrated Bollywood and Hollywood composer who has won Oscars and Grammy awards said, “This world-leading studio will attract the cream of the industry to Dubai. Working with the most exciting female musical talents of the region, the Firdaus Women’s Orchestra will enable Dubai to become a focal point for making ground-breaking new music, and I look forward to being part of that.”
